Washington, DC Parks

On a visit to the Nation’s Capital there are so many great museums to visit. But in addition to the art, culture and history to be found inside these museum buildings, the parks and gardens in the Washington DC area are filled with great horticulture, interesting design and plenty of history too. Having lived in the area for 10 years, in my early days I explored the southern style of gardening with the eagerness of new gardener. Today there are more parks and gardens to explore that add to the enjoyment of a visit to this area.  Washington is a very majestic city that accommodates its many visitors with shady areas to rest from the summertime heat and enjoy the parks.

My photos will take you on an armchair tour of the landscapes at places such as the restored gardens of Mount Vernon the riverside home of George Washington, and the botanic gardens at the foot of the U.S. Capitol Building which includes extensive greenhouses, plus the hidden garden treasures of Dumbarton Oaks in Georgetown. You will want to spend a few extra days in the DC area on your next visit. I even provide you with a list of parks to visit!
